|JOSEPH ELLIOT'S CHINESE RAZOR - 6/8 - NEAR WEDGE - RE-GRIND
This is an extremely gorgeous looking very old collectable near wedge vintage straight razor from Joseph Elliot in stellar condition.
This is history right there. This razor is from around the early 1800's as Joseph Elliot was active between 1821-1854.
It is believed these razor were targeted for the many Chinese immigrants that came to the US in the early 1800's especially during the mid 1800 California Gold Rush era.
The Chinese engraving on the tang translates (left to right): The first two words "Of Exceptional Quality" The last word "Melody".
The razor was completely restored with a total re-grind, preserving the original near wedge grind. I would say all blemishes are gone and the razor looks amazing for its age. Picture don't even do it even justice.
Custom scales are gray translucent horn with a tapered bloody red jasper recon stone.
Horn is a natural material so small imperfections are very normal. I don't do or offer horn very often but when I do I always make sure it's the best finished horn you'll end up finding or getting.
Blade has a beautiful looking mirror polish.
Blade measures 6/8
Grind: Near Wedge - Barber's notch - subtle smiling edge and spine.
Total weight: 2.4 oz
Total cutting edge: 2.8 inches
Pins/Washers: Nickel silver, stainless steel, brass.
Wedge: Bloody red jasper recon stone
On the front blade it says: Joseph Elliot's 'Chinese Razor'
The cross trade mark with the 2 C's are still fully present
as is the rest of the blade's engraving. Same for the Chinese tang engraving.
Blade closes and centers nicely.
Very rare piece, especially in this condition.
